With a truly fascinating history, the 1963 Reliant Sabre 6 GT will be one of the stars of Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions’ summer sale on Thursday 19th June, to be held at Athelhampton House, near Dorchester, Dorset, DT2 7LG.
The ex-Works rally car participated in a number of famous rallies in the early 60s, such as the Alpine Rally of 1963 when it won its class, and was in the hands of some famous drivers, including Raymond Baxter at the 1963 Spa-Sofia-Leige, and Bobby Parkes at the ’64 Welsh Rally, where the Reliant finished second in class.
During the 1990s, the Sabre 6 GT was the subject of a photographic rebuild, but will require finishing work now to enable it to return to competition. The exciting rally car will be offered with an extensive history, including rare items of associated memorabilia, and has an estimate of £23,000 - £26,000.
Two other interesting restoration projects will complement the Reliant at DVCA’s June auction: a 1951 Riley RMB 2.5 Litre Sports and a 1922 Lagonda Two Seat Drophead Coupe with Dickey, with guide prices of £15,000 – £17,000 and £8000 – £10,000 respectively. Both motor cars were rescued from long term storage in an Isle of Wight barn and each are a worthwhile challenge; the Riley has an attractive sports roadster body and the Lagonda is thought to be one of just three remaining survivors of its type and is complete with all its original features.
Further entries for the auction sale are still being accepted; for further information, please visit www.dvca.co.uk or telephone Brian Chant on 01963 363353.
