A brave performance from AFC Blandford goalkeeper Ben Cutting couldn’t stop defeat in his side’s first ever county cup final.

Tavern Celtic took a 2-1 victory in the Dorset Junior Cup final at Hamworthy’s County Ground, despite some heroic saves from the Blandford stopper.

Celtic took the lead after 15 minutes after a defensive error from Blandford. The north Dorset side almost drew level soon after when Chris House latched onto Alex Young’s through ball. House calmly went round the Celtic goalkeeper, but a desperate defensive effort saw the attempt cleared off the line.

Cutting was called into action midway through the first half when Tavern were awarded a penalty, but the Blandford goalkeeper made a great save to keep his side in the game.

Blandford made a bright start to the second half and were rewarded when some good pressure forced a Tavern player to turn the ball into his own net after a dangerous cross into the box.

Tavern secured victory with 12 minutes remaining when Cutting was given no chance with a long range effort, which rifled into the top corner.

Blandford had the opportunity to clinch the Dorset League Division Three title on Wednesday night when they visited Stalbridge. Cutting agreed earlier in the season to get the club’s badge tattooed on him if his team won the league. If AFC Blandford remain unbeaten all season, he will also get every players initials tattooed around the crest.
