Dorset-based musician Billy Bragg added his voice last night to critics of Government education reforms which he said would “stifle creativity” as he warned that arts subjects would be dumped from the curriculum.

He used a keynote lecture to the radio industry – in memory of broadcaster John Peel – to argue that under-pressure schools would instead stick to core academic subjects.

His views echo those of Tate director Sir Nicholas Serota and Lord Lloyd-Webber, who have spoken of their fears for creativity if there are cuts to arts education.

Bragg was speaking at the annual Radio Festival in Manchester.
