Two late goals from AFC Bournemouth couldn’t stop the Cherries slipping to their second straight defeat in the Sky Bet Championship as three goals in the space of 11 minutes handed Blackburn Rovers three points.
Goals from Jordan Rhodes, Grant Hanley and Rudy Gestede have the hosts a 3-0 lead at the break, and despite Brett Pitman’s strike from the penalty spot nine minutes from time, and Steve Cook’s late header - Rovers held on for their second win of the season.
Rhodes, who is believed to be the subject of a bid from Premier League outfit Hull City, opened the scoring when he robbed Cook of possession in the 14th minute – before Hanley and headed home eight minutes later to double the host’s lead.
The home side took a comprehensive lead into the interval when Gestede deflected Craig Conway’s blast past Cherries goalkeeper Lee Camp.
Bournemouth were forced to wait until nine minutes from time to grab a lifeline, when Adam Smith was fouled in the box by Alex Baptiste. Substitute Pitman slotted home from the spot – before Cook headed home in stoppage time to set up a nervous climax for the hosts.
Tommy Elphick almost rescued a point for the visitors, but Baptiste’s bock denied the Cherries defender.
