THE annual game between the old boys and the new boys of Blandford Rugby Club was played over the festive period.

More than 40 players were eager for action after the extended break caused by bad weather and the Christmas period.

The opening quarter saw the sides evenly matched. First blood went to the Old Boys who utilised their strength in the pack to push over. Not to be outdone the New Boys pushed hard and eventually managed to release the wingers to open their account.

The gusty conditions forced both sides to run the ball rather than opt for a kicking game which proved more entertaining for the spectators, and half-time saw the sides level.

The second-half, with both sides making a number of substitutions, started with a period of stalemate until the Old Boys again found their stride and scored. The New Boys responded using good passes to release the wingers to push hard for the line, and the final score saw the New Boys triumphing over the Old Boys by a couple of tries.

Blandford RFC would like to thank Dorset & Wilts Referees Society member Tim Wynn for officiating at the game.
