THE first trial screening in what could be a series of cinema nights is being held next Friday (24th) at 7pm in the Corn Exchange, Blandford.

The town council has agreed to launch the trial after a suggestion from an employee, Rob Watkins, of the grounds staff, which then won huge public support on the council’s Facebook page.

In a subsequent poll, the choice of film was overwhelming: Gravity, the sci-fi thriller starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

Council staff will give their time voluntarily on film night and, in another bid to ensure success, local organisations and business are buying advertising space for showing on the screen before the main feature starts.

Also being shown on the night is a film made by students of Arts University Bournemouth about the graduates who worked on Gravity for a visual effects company.
