A Bournemouth teenager was taken to hospital with leg injuries after being knocked off a scooter

A teenager was knocked off a scooter in Christchurch with the driver of a car leaving the scene without stopping.

At around 12.20am on Sunday January 6, a silver MG ZR collided with a 19-year-old Bournemouth man riding a scooter along Lymington Road, Highcliffe - in the direction of Bure Lane.

The scooter rider was thrown several metres off his bike and landed in the road. He was taken to Bournemouth Hospital suffering form leg injuries. He has since been discharged.

The driver of the MG left the scene without leaving any details, driving towards New Milton.

Police Constable Bill Nightingall of Christchurch Police said: "I am appealing for anyone with information about this incident to contact Dorset Police urgently.

"The driver will undoubtedly be aware he struck the motorcyclist and fled without any regard for his welfare, and I would urge them to do the right thing and speak with the police.

"The victim is extremely lucky to have only suffered minor injuries."

Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 6:011.
