THERE was a festive atmosphere at Broadstone when the annual Christmas Parade processed through the central streets accompanied by music from the Dorset Marching Band. Now in its 44th year, the parade was led by Father Christmas and friends, featured the Wessex Majorettes twirling and whirling, with a steam engine and the Dorset Fire and Rescue Fire Engine bringing up the rear.
With close on 30 organisations taking part there were tiny tots from Pre-Schools and Nurseries, youngsters from Brownies and Beavers, school groups, dance troops and many others. Yuletide themes were much in evidence with Christmas trees, reindeers, nativity scenes and even walking wrapped gifts! Another group were beautifully dressed Victorian boys, girls and grown-ups while pantomime characters also added colour to the Parade. Crowds lined the route and there were seasonal stalls to enjoy, Santa taking up residence later in his grotto. Money raised by the Parade was being donated to Broadstone Scouts and LEAF (Leukaemia Education and Fundraising).
