If Peter Matthews, general manager of Bournemouth’s Castlepoint Shopping Park uses the saying “put the flags out” to the maintenance team, they know that they face a long job – in fact 1151ft (351 metres).

The patriotic bunting comprising of hundreds of Union Jacks is to be hung above the two shopping malls to celebrate and commemorate local and national special occasions ranging from the Queens Birthday, football and other sporting events to the Bournemouth Air Festival.

Fortunately for maintenance team members James Cotton and Gareth Dix they are used to working at 5 metres above the car park and pedestrian areas.

“The bunting takes around 2 days to hang and we know that the public appreciates the patriotic display from the comments we receive,” said James Cotton.
