Disappointment was expressed that only one member of the public attended the annual town meeting in Warminster.

The meeting was held at the town’s Civic Centre on Monday as an opportunity for electors to discuss town affairs and ask questions.

But only one question was asked - by ex-councillor Tony Nicklin who raised the subject of communication.

He asked why the newsletter Engage was no longer published.

Mayor of Warminster Paul Batchelor said it had been dropped to save money. Councillor Pip Ridout said a survey of residents revealed that most people had not heard of the publication even though it had been delivered to every household in the town.

After the meeting town clerk Heather Abernethie said: “Our team all work hard on behalf of the councillors and people of Warminster and it is a pity more people are not interested in coming to our meeting.

“We have published an annual report which details all the achievements of our Town Council.

“The Civic Centre is now being used by an increasing number of diverse groups and our film afternoons are becoming very popular.”

Copies of the report are available at the Civic Centre.
