WIMBORNE Town manager Steve Cuss is confident his Magppies side can bounce back from Saturday’s shock 7-0 defeat against Paulton Rovers when they visit Poole Town in the Dorset Senior Cup tonight.
The Magpies have already been knocked out of one cup competition by the Dolphins this season, when Poole edged Wimborne on penalties in the Red Insure Cup.
Skipper Scott Arnold and Shaun Brian are expected to return for the Magpies, but new signing Ian Oliver could miss out after picking up an injury at Paulton.
“It’s been a strange season” explained Cuss. “We beat Guildford 8-1 earlier in the campaign and then go and lose 7-0 at Paulton.
“These things happen and despite that defeat, we are still sixth in the table. The players have the character to bounce back.”
Dolphins boss Tom Killick is looking forward to tonight’s clash – believing it is good for the local sports scene.
“It’s always good to play Wimborne” explained Killick.
“It draws a decent crowd and competitive edge. We’re looking forward to it.”
Last season, with both sides playing in the Southern League Division One South and West – the Dolphins recorded a 1-0 win at Tatnum and a 2-0 win at Cuthbury.
Wimborne beat Poole in the last season’s league cup, and will want to restore some pride against their local rivals.
In the other quarter finals, Weymouth host Bridport tonight – while Gillingham Town visit Verwood and Hamworthy United host Dorchester Town on Wednesday.
