WE are lucky to have some fantastic scenery on our doorstep - from our dramatic Jurassic coastline to Shaftesbury’s iconic Gold Hill - perfect for making a memorable Valentine’s Day proposal (weather permitting).

Here are some other Dorset spots where you and your Valentine can get romantic..

Golden Cap

The highest point on the South Coast offers magnificent views at every compass point.

On a clear day you can see across Lyme Bay to Dartmoor.

Cerne Abbas Giant

The Cerne Abbas Giant or the 'Rude Man' is one of the largest hill figures in Britain and is surrounded by many myths and folklores. Certain legends associated with the giant predict that a woman will be blessed with fertility and that the couple will enjoy a happy marriage.

The Cobb at Lyme Regis

For any lovers of literature the Cobb at Lyme Regis, famously used in TV adaptations of Jane Austen’s Persuasion and John Fowles’ French Lieutenant’s Woman, is a wonderful setting to propose.

Gold Hill

The stunning views from the top of iconic Gold Hill in Shaftesbury or from nearby Park Walk provide the perfect backdrop for popping that all-important question.

St Catherine’s Chapel

Set high on a hilltop overlooking Abbotsbury Abbey, this 14th-century chapel was built by the monks as a place of pilgrimage and retreat.

Go down on one knee at the spectacular viewpoint - it commands one of the best views of Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon and will make a memorable proposal, especially at sunset.

Sherborne Castle

Sherborne Castle, with its beautiful lakeside setting, will create the perfect backdrop for your special moment.
