Dorset social workers win national Team of the Year award

A team of Dorset social workers have been branded 'Team of the Year' at a national award ceremony.

The 'Children who are Disabled Team East' won top prize at the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2012 at the Palace of Westminster.

The team offer a range of support to disabled children and their families, including short breaks and services to children in care on in need of protection.

Jackie Last, Dorset County Council's acting director for Children's Services said: "This team represents the overall quality of social work and occupational therapy practice in Dorset and I'm extremely proud of them.

"Their achievement gives a real boost to the morale of staff, and demonstrates our commitment to working in partnership with children, young people and families in Dorset."

The Dorset team were praised for their 'warmth' and their ability to remain focused on the personal needs of the children they support.

Cllr Toni Coombs, cabinet member for Children's Service at Dorset County Council said: "I'm delighted that the efforts of the 'Children who are Disabled East Team' have been recognised nationally with this prestigious social work award and would like to congratulate them on their achievement.

"This accolade refelcts their passion and commitment to help and improve the lives of the families they work with."
