Tom Highnam, a Year 12 percussionist from Wells Cathedral School who lives in Fontmell Magna has reached the category finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2014. After an extensive audition process, involving over 450 entries from musicians aged between 818 years old, just five finalists for each musical category have been chosen for the category finals, which will take place in early March.
Tom's percussion final will take place in the elaborate Dora Stoutzker Hall, at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff on Tuesday 4th March in front of an audience and a panel of adjudicators. The overall semifinal will follow on 9th March, before the BBC Young Musician Final on 18th May 2014, which will take place at Usher Hall in Edinburgh.
BBC Young Musician will be broadcast extensively on BBC Four and BBC Radio 3.
Tom started his musical life at St Andrew's School, Fontmell Magna and then went to Clayesmore Prep School as a music scholar. He lives in Fontmell Magna and regularly plays locally.
