A woman in her eighties had her handbag snatched near the Dolphin Centre in Poole on Monday.

At 10.20am the local woman was walking to Falkland Square from the bus stop when an unknown man ran towards her, stumbled and grabbed her handbag off her shopping trolley. He ran away in the direction of the George roundabout.

The bag, which has not been recovered, contained cash, bank cards and some personal items. The victim was not injured.

The offender is described as white, in his mid-twenties, approximately five feet seven inches tall, of medium build with dark brown short hair. He was wearing a brown North Face jacket with a white motif, a black baseball cap also with a white motif on the front, blue jeans and white trainers.

Police Constable Simon Young, of Poole police, said: “This was a callous and targeted attack on an elderly victim.

“Following enquiries I am now able to release a CCTV image of the suspect. Although his face is not clear, someone may recognise him from his clothing and stature. I urge anyone who can identify him to contact me as soon as possible.

“I also am keen to hear from anyone who has information about similar crimes or has any concerns.

“Anyone with any information that can help the investigation is asked to call Dorset Police on 101 as soon as possible.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 12:110. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
