The hated IMAX building at Bournemouth Pier Approach will begin its demolition process on Friday.
It will take around two months for workers to fully dismantle the building, piece by piece.
A new outdoor events space on Bournemouth seafront will be completed by the summer, while the removal of the building will restore sea views.
"This is a historic moment for Bournemouth" said Leader of Bournemouth Borough Council, Cllr John Beesley.
"Our residents have been telling us for years that they hate the building and would like to see the sea views restored and so I am delighted that we are now in a position to fulfill theses wishes.
"From the summer we will have our sea views back plus a new public open space at Pier Approach to enjoy until the market recovers and we are in a better position to redevelop the site as part of a wider scheme. "
The main entrance of the IMAX building will be the first area to be dismantled, while a total of 13,500 tonnes of building waste will be removed - including 3,000 tonnes of steel and 8,000 tonnes of concrete.
The public can watch the building coming down on the Council's live webcam.
