Poole Pirates issued a statement of intent as the Elite League champions completed an impressive comeback to end King’s Lynn Stars’ unbeaten record at Norfolk Arena this season.
Despite trailing by eight points after heat five, Darcy Ward and Maciej Janowski spearheaded the momentum shift with a 5-1 win in heat six – before Kyle Newman and Josh Grajczonek continued the push in the next race to level the scores.
Poole continued to press and their 49-41 victory handed them four Elite League points – closing the gap to King’s Lynn to just six points.
“Results like that are just ones you dream of” explained Poole promoter Matt Ford. “It was an incredible turn around and one to be hugely proud of.
“The lads were magnificent. We had a torrid journey up there but when you witness a team ride like the Pirates did tonight – you can only think that it was well worth it.”
The meeting was still in the balance going into heat 10 – but Janowski and Chris Harris extended Poole’s lead to six points with another impressive 5-1 win. Janowski won heat 13, with Ward edging past Niels-Kristina Iversen to secure victory.
