THE district council is holding a public meeting at Allendale House at 6pm on Monday 6 January to gather views on the future use of our new Square in Wimborne, with specific reference to the ongoing saga of open ‘café culture’ seating. When the public’s views were last canvassed, such was the lack of awareness that just 14 - yes, fourteen - suggestions from the public were received! Hopefully this time it will be different.
I have previously highlighted that our new Square is OUR Square so it is OUR views which should be considered when deciding its future (a view shared by our council). I also believe that the views of the public should take precedence over unelected bodies such as Wimborne BID Ltd, who quite understandably represent the businesses levy payers of our town and as such seek to promote their specific, and sometimes conflicting, interests.
We need some fresh, imaginative ‘just do it’ thinking as to how OUR Square should be used, and how it should be furnished, so please come along and make your views known, or write to our council, if our voices are to be heard.
