MAY I just say thank you and well done to Christchurch and East Dorset Councils. In the 3rd January Stour and Avon there were two articles which especially which caught my eye.
1. The new housing policies which are due to come into force soon. This means that local people get priority. I rang to see if hypothetically a family newly arrived from Europe with a family of four would be able go to the top of the list because they were homeless, and was told that living locally or having local family connections was the top priority for being awarded social housing. I think this is good because there are so many people in desperate need of housing in this country, and still not enough local affordable housing is being built.
2. The article on the help given to the residents evacuated from Gladelands Park because of flooding said the council would pick up the tag for emergency accommodation costs, plus there were also lots of offers of help from local people to those affected. Well done to all concerned. It's lovely to hear of people going the extra mile to help others. It made my New Year even happier!
