TILLIE Newman, a Year 11 pupil at Leweston has been riding since the age of three and has rapidly risen through the ranks, competing at national championships and in teams for Leweston, the Pony Club, Riding Club and British Show Jumping.

Now 15, Tillie remains a member of the local Pony Club and Riding Club, but focuses on affiliated show jumping.

Tillie is passionate about her horses Troy and Oscar and dedicated to show jumping. She jumps horses, rather than ponies, which means she competes against seniors, many of whom show jump professionally.

2014 will be a busy year for Tillie as she has to concentrate on her GSCEs, whilst maintaining her impressive competition record. The year has started well and she has already qualified ‘Oscar’ for two classes at the Blue Chip Championships in April. She is now aiming to qualify ‘Troy’ for these finals too.

As with all equestrian sports, it is hard to predict what the future holds, but Tillie dreams of one day winning a place on the British Team.
