A SHOWCASE for young riders in the West Country is going from strength to strength.

The Pony Club horse & hound show jumping challenge, introduced to the annual South West Christmas Equine Fair six years ago, has established a dedicated following from both Pony Clubs and audiences alike.

The pony club horse and hound challenge will see four pony clubs on Saturday, 8th December pit their wits against each other, in this fast-paced and fun competition. Riders will jump a course followed by runners and their dogs.

With 10,000-plus visitors each year, it is hard to imagine a better opportunity for young riders to perform in front of a large crowd, but even more beneficial is the expert advice, coming this year from Tim Stockdale.

The interest from pony clubs in the South West has been fantastic and three were picked from a hat to compete against last year's winners, Banwell Pony Club (members from Bristol to Axbridge and from Portishead across the Chew Valley), who will return to defend their titles!

The other three clubs will be Blackmore & Sparkford Vale Pony Club, Quantock Pony Club and Weston Harriers Hunt (covering Weston Super Mare to Highbridge and from the Somerset coast to Draycott & Wedmore).

The show is at Westpoint in Exeter on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December, 9am – 6pm (Saturday), 9–5 (Sunday).
