TWO large stone columns outside a building in Poundbury were demolished when a lorry collided with them in a fail to stop collision on Wednesday morning.

The vehicle, believed to be a skip lorry, struck the heavy pillars outside Poundbury Clinic on Middlemarsh Street at about 7.10am.

The entrance to the clinic was blocked by the fallen stone columns and a street lamp was also damaged.

Witnesses say the lorry, which didn't stop after the collision, was white with red markings.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: "We are looking for witnesses and information relating to this incident. It is possible that the driver didn't realise what had happened because of the noise of the vehicle."

Anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101.
