A MURDER investigation has been launched in Bournemouth after a woman’s body was discovered at Horseshoe Common.
Police were called to the scene at around 12:20am this morning – with the victim pronounced dead at the scene.
A 25-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Detective Chief Inspector John Gately, of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “I can confirm that Dorset Police has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the deceased woman.
“As a result, members of the public may have noticed increased police activity within the Horseshoe Common area of Bournemouth.
“I am appealing for witnesses and to anyone who may have information regarding the person responsible or may have seen any suspicious behaviour in the area around the time of the incident to contact police at the earliest opportunity.
“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area of Horseshoe Common and Dean Park Road between the hours of 7.30pm on Thursday 12 December and 12.20am on Friday 13 December 2013.
“At this time, we believe the alleged suspect and the victim were known to each other, and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“Dorset Police will be conducting house to house enquiries and increasing patrols in the area this weekend.”
