A London man was attacked in Swanage town centre

A man was assaulted in Swanage after people in the car he tried to flag down got out of the vehicle and attacked him.

At 2am on Tuesday December 11, a 22-year-old man from London was assaulted near the Arkwrights store on the High Street at the top of Church Hill.

The victim had become separated from his two friends after a night out, when he tried to flag down a passing car.

The vehicle stopped, and two occupants got out and began assaulting the man. After being punched to the ground, the victim managed to run off - without sustaining any injuries.

Police Constable Kyle Hickman of Wareham Police said: "This unprovoked attack is extremely rare and has had a significant impact on both the victim and the community of Swanage.

"I would ask any witnesses, anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious between 2am and 3am on that Tuesday near Arkwrights, and anyone with information about those responsible, to call Dorset Police on 101."
