GENEROUS readers from Gillingham have given a New Year boost to a fund for treatment for a little boy in Stalbridge.

Eileen and John Jones sent a cheque for £30 to the Blackmore Vale Magazine office with the request that it be forwarded to the Ben Tickner Treatment Fund.

They felt moved to make a donation as a token of their appreciation of all those who serve the public in Gillingham through rubbish collection, delivery and emergency services in all weathers and the uplifting sight of the Christmas decorations.

They chose the fund for their donation after reading about the progress being made by Ben, seven, who has cerebral palsy and is responding to intensive physiotherapy.

The treatment costs £3,300 a year and Ben will need it into adulthood.

Mr Tickner described Mr and Mrs Jones' donation as brilliant.

He said: "It's a surprise and really nice when you realise how generous people are.

"I'm very grateful to Mr and Mrs Jones. It helps to ensure Ben's treatment can carry on into another year."

The Anne Harris Children's Fund, based in Henstridge, gave £1,000 before Christmas and community fundraising and aluminium recycling help meet the cost of treatment.
