Odd Down 3-1 Gillingham Town

An out-of-practice Gillingham Town went down 3-1 at Odd Down - playing their first league game since November 17.

The Gills dominated large parts of the game, but a stubborn defensive effort from the home side proved too difficult for the Dorset side to break down.

Odd Down needed just seven minutes to open the scoring when Twaine Plummer powered the ball past Gills goalkeeper Jamie Beale after some questionable marking from the visitors.

The home side had a goal ruled out for offside before Gillingham drew level mid-way through the first period.

A great ball into the area by new signing Jon Vance was headed home by Ben Thompson to tie the score.

After the break, the home side again got off to the brighter start, and restored their lead two minutes into the second period.

The Gills failed to clear an Odd Down corner and the ball was thumped home from close range.

Gillingham dominated second-half possession, but the hosts looked dangerous on the counter-attack.

Thompson was causing problems for the Odd Down defence, and had a goal ruled out for offside with just three minutes remaining.

The Gills didn't give up, however, and Thompson was sent through on goal deep into stoppage time. The striker was hauled down by an Odd Down defender, who was lucky to escape with a yellow card.

From the resulting free kick, Vance had the chance to mark his return to Gillingham with a late equaliser, but his effort came thumping off the crossbar.

With the Dorset side throwing everything forward, they were caught short defensively, allowing Odd Down to seal all three points with their third goal with the last kick of the game.
