Paralympic star Paul Blake returned to his Dorset home town yesterday, as he opened the new Dorchester Sports Centre.

The 22-year-old who has Cerebral Palsy won silver at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in the T36 400m and bronze in the T36 800m.

The £8 million project has been open to the public since October, but was officially opened yesterday.

Mark Jenkins, Manager of the Dorchester Sports Centre, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have Paul come along to open the centre as he is a fantastic role model for local young people and across the UK.

"Paul will also be able to see for himself the range of facilities on offer here which he can access for training and which will hopefully inspire other potential athletes and future Olympians."

Dorchester Sports Centre has been developed by West Dorset District Council along with Dorset County Council, and The Thomas Hardye School.
