Police in Gillingham are appealing for information after thieves targeted an elderly woman.

A 60-year-old local resident was sat on a bench outside the Cooperative store, High Street, at around 11am on Saturday, December 22.

She was approached by a man and woman who sat either side of her and started a conversation.

After the offenders had left, the woman noticed £50 was missing from her purse, placed in her rucksack.

PC Geraint Craig said: "The victim has been targeted by these two offenders who used distraction methods to steal her money.

"The first suspect is described as a scruffy looking white woman in her 20s with mousy brown, shoulder-length hair. She is of slim build and around 5 ft 6 ins tall.

"She was wearing a yellow T-shirt, a beige jacket and was pushing a child's buggy.

"The second offender was a white man of slight build, wearing a dark blue knitted beanie hat and a khaki-style army jacket with blue jeans."

Anyone with information should call non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 22:302.

Alternatively contact Crimestoppers at 0800 555111.
