Police have released an e-fit of a suspect as they continue to investigate an attempted armed robbery in Verwood.

Officers are renewing their appeal for witnesses following the incident in the Morrisons car park on Chiltern Drive at around 7:30pm on Friday January 4.

A 59-year-old woman from Wimborne was threatened by a man with a handgun while she was getting into her car.

The offender demanded the victim hand over money, but she refused and screamed - causing the man to leave the scene.

Detective Sergeant Ian Fletcher of Bournemouth CID said: "I am now in a position to release an e-fit of a man I am keen to speak with.

"This man was seen standing at the junction of Bridport Road and Mendip Road in Verwood between 1pm and 1:10pm on the day of the offence.

"He is described as white, aged in his forties, between five feet ten inches and six feet tall and of medium build.

"He has a strong jaw line, was clean shaven and wearing a dark woollen hat pulled down to the top of his eyes.

"I need to locate this man to eliminate him from my enquiries."

Witnesses and anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 04:404.
