Poole Pirates cruised past Leicester Lions but there are injury concerns regarding captain Darcy Ward, who fell in the final heat at Wimborne Road.
Ward’s fall in heat 15 capped a dismal week for the Australian – who missed Sunday’s Grand Prix in Latvia, before his bike caught fire in Sweden on Tuesday.
The Pirates saw Josh Grajczonek and Kyle Newman come through the meeting with Leicester unbeaten – as Newman continued his impressive form.
“I am really happy with that and I am glad I am getting the chance to really show what I am capable of” he said
”For sure, the draft scheme is really helping me. Obviously though, it means I cannot break into the team proper – which would normally have been my target – but scoring as many points for the club and helping the team to win matches it what it’s about.”
Grajczonek secured his maximum haul, despite tangling with Leicester’s Krzysztof Buczowski in heat 10 when both riders slammed into the fence.
The Lions’ star rider Jason Doyle missed the start of the meeting as he was stuck in traffic, but Lewis Bridger gave the visitors hope when he finished ahead of Ward and Maciej Janowski.
Doyle then combined with Buczkowski for a 5-1 victory over Vaclav Milik and Przemyslaw Pawlicki - but Newman and Grajczonek hit back instantly, before Milik and Pawlicki saw off Bridger’s tactical ride as Poole cruised to maximum league points.
