Poole Pirates are aiming to extend their advantage over Lakeside Hammers in the Elite League when the two teams meet tonight.
The Pirates are currently six points ahead of the Hammers ahead of tonight’s meeting at Wimborne Road – with promoter Matt Ford urging not to let the pressure drop.
“There is no doubt we are now very nicely place” he said. “We must not let the hard work slip during this crucial period of the campaign.
“There is a lot left to do this year, nothing has been won yet and there will be many more twists and turns before now and the end of the season. It must be said, we having been superb. I have seen some sensational displays in my time but Middlo’s (Neil Middleditch) men have been on fire.
“Fantastic is the one word that can describe our performances both at Wolves and at home last week.”
Lakeside have secured just seven points on the road this season and recently were thrashed by 18 points by Swindon, 24 hours after the Pirates secured a 56-35 victory over the Robins.
Rory Schlein will feature for Lakeside in place of the injured Mikkel Bech Jensen. Schlein will join former Pirate Davey Watt and Lewis Bridger in the Hammers line-up – but Ford has warned the Pirates the importance of facing their play-off rivals.
“We have another important week with Lakeside on Wednesday and then our second trip to King’s Lynn” he said. “Life doesn’t get much tougher than meeting the teams immediately above and below you in the space of 48 hours.
“Every point we can muster from these two matches will be points our opponents can’t score – so we will be going in to them looking to be at our sharpest.”
