Poole Town 3, Chippenham Town 1
TWO goals from Steve Devlin helped Poole Town continue their impressive league record against Chippenham Town.
Poole looked the more likely of the two sides to open the scoring, and came close in the opening stages through Carl Preston and Michael Charles.
The Dolphins finally made the breakthough on 43 minutes when Cann set up Devlin, who fired a shot into the bottom corner of the net. Poole were able to double their advantage in first half stoppage time after a dangerous run from Preston was cut short when he was fouled in the box. Devlin calmly fired home to give Poole a confident advantage.
Will Spetch's header after the break was brilliantly saved by Chippenham goalkeeper Matt Bulman, before the visitors halved the deficit midway through the second period thanks to a Rob Dean goal.
The visitors grew in confidence and would have drawn level had Neil Martin not blocked an effort on the line.
Poole hit the visitors on the counter attack in the closing stages, and were awarded their second penalty after a clumsy challenge on Warren Byerley. Charles stepped up and fired home the spot kick to seal another impressive three points for the Dolphins.
Poole visit struggling Bashley Town on Saturday, looking to build on their fifth placed position in the Southern Premier League.
