A man from Radstock, who carried out illegal gas work in properties in Shepton Mallet, Midsomer Norton and Paulton, has been prosecuted.
John Chalmers was not registered with Gas Safe and consequently was not legally competent to undertake gas work when he worked on boilers between April and October 2011.
The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) confirmed that the work Chalmers carried out did not meet the official gas appliance standards.
Chalmers, who pleaded guilty to two separate breeches of the Gas Safety Regulations, was sentenced to 240 hours of community work and ordered to pay £10,000 in costs and a further £713 to the owner of the effected property in Shepton Mallet.
Chalmers has already been convicted of similar offences in the past and, in 2008, pledged not to carry out any more gas work until he obtained the Gas Safe registration status.
