School cookery competition

FERNDOWN Upper School is amongst six Dorset schools which are taking part in a cooking competition.

The Harvest Fine Foods 'Yes Chef' competition is for students aged 13-18.

The other schools participating are Harewood College, The Thomas Hardye School, Lytchett Minster School, Ashdown Technology College and The Bishop of Winchester Academy.

Organised by the not-for-profit Enterprise and Skills Company, the launch took place last month at the Escoffier Restaurant at Lansdowne College. Over several rounds students are challenged to cook a menu covering a set course and one involving their own interpretation/creativity.

The competition is heavily supported by the local hospitality industry and industry chefs will judge each round.

Principle sponsors are Harvest Fine Foods who spoil the four finalists every year with amazing prizes. This year's winner will go on from the competition to appear at the Bournemouth Food Festival.

The in-school heats take place between now and Christmas and the quarter finals at Canford School on Monday 18th February.

The semi finals are at Bournemouth & Poole College kitchens on Friday 8th March and the final is pencilled in for Monday 25th March at The Carlton Hotel in Bournemouth.
