Gillingham Town booked their place in the Dorset Senior Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 6-1 win over Sherborne Town.

The Gills had not played in seven weeks due to persistent bad weather, but easily brushed aside their local rivals thanks to two goals from Lee Gale.

Gale opened the scoring after fifteen minutes after being played through by Dan Cox. The striker found the net with low drive.

Cox got himself on the scoresheet as he doubled the Gills' lead after thirty minutes when he scored with a powerful volley.

Sherborne grabbed a lifeline in first-half injury time when they found the net with a powerful shot.

The revival didn't last long, however, as Ben Thompson scored Gillingham's third goal five minutes after the restart.

Nick Compton put the result beyond doubt as he headed home just before the hour mark after a good ball in from Gale.

Gale added his second goal of the game after being played through by Thompson - before Aaron Rodriguez rounded off the scoring after beating the offside trap.

Gillingham join Poole Town, Weymouth FC and Wimborne Town in the semi-final draw which will be made tonight.
