The West Country has been warned to brace itself for the first snow of winter.

Parts of the South West were expected to see a light dusting of snow early this morning, as temperatures dropped following a period of heavy rain. Flurries of snow could fall on higher ground, including Exmoor and the Mendip Hills in Somerset.

Ice could pose problems for motorists in rural parts of the region, although temperatures were expected to remain just above freezing overnight in most parts.
