AS Somerset-based GLD Productions celebrates making the shortlist for Best Supplier at the Event Production Awards, the Furniture Hire specialists reflect on a massive year, which has seen the company supply to a growing portfolio of high-profile events in 2013, including Gary Barlow’s recent New Year’s Eve show and Bruce Springsteen’s UK tour, as well as regional events Glastonbury Festival, the Bath & West Show and Yeovilton Air Day, all which has resulted in a big move this month as the company continues to expand.
Substantial growth in business for the Somerset-based event suppliers in the past few years, which has seen their turnover up 20% in 2013 alone, has led GLD to move their growing Sales & Operations team into purpose built offices at one of their warehouses in Wincanton as they outgrow previous premises.
GLD’s 2013 highlights also include 10 weeks touring with Robbie Williams across Europe on his ‘Take The Crown Stadium Tour’, Bruce Springsteen at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, supplying premium hospitality furniture for the Monaco Grand Prix and designing a bespoke portable gym in an 18 tonne truck.
They brought the year to a close backstage at Gary Barlow’s New Year’s Eve show. The BBC’s televised concert ‘Gary Barlow’s Big Ben Bash Live’ saw the Take That star performing to a live audience of 2,000 with a further 10 million tuning in. GLD provided the backstage environment at Westminster’s Central Hall for the artist, band and guests. They also supplied furniture for the production behind the annual London NYE 2013 Fireworks, which this year became the world's first multi-sensory fireworks display and was watched by millions across the capital.
Their growth in the sporting hospitality market also saw them supply event furniture to the official rugby hospitality run by Mike Burton for the QBE Internationals at Twickenham and to the Jockey Club Bar at the The Open race festival at Cheltenham Racecourse.
