Somerset mental health charity seeks support

ONE in three people contract cancer, one in three people suffer with a mental health issue - why is it then that cancer charities receive millions of pounds in donations and mental health charities struggle to survive?

The South Somerset Mind charity based in Yeovil is currently negotiating extremely tough financial conditions. In order for the charity to continue to provide valuable support to hundreds of service-users across a wide geography in South Somerset it has been necessary to restructure the organisation and cut costs.

South Somerset Mind urgently needs donations to reverse the downward funding trend and to support the development of new services in an environment where State provided services are continually being cut.

Like many smaller charities, they operate on a shoestring, relying mainly on grants and funding from bodies such as the Big Lottery or statutory bodies such as the Somerset Partnership. However, core income (unrestricted income) is required to fund the development of new services and to continue to offer the wide range of volunteer run projects that provide much needed support to many service users. £200,000 is required to meet core costs and this is where they urgently need help.

For more information please contact either the Chairman of Trustees, Anne-Marie Rowson ( 07901 827484) or Jennie Flory, Trustee, (07799 261479) with a background in Fundraising, to see how you can help.
