The Swanage Pier Trust have launched a campaign to raise £50,000 after the Dorset pier was severely damaged following a storm last week.

The Pier has been partially closed to the public - until the estimated £50,000 is raised to repair the extensive damage.

On the evening on Monday March 11, the high tide and raging sea tore through the Victorian pier, tearing off an external pile.

The mid-section walkway has been put in imminent danger of collapse.

Volunteers have helped to brace the damaged section of the pier in order to prevent further damage.

"This damage could not have come at a worse time" explained Derek Tarrant, chairman of The Swanage Pier Trust.

"We have committed all our available funds, including a generous donation from the De Moulham Trust, to the restoration of the South Landing Stage."

Anyone who wishes to donate can do so by calling the Swanage Pier Trust on 01929 425866 or by emailing generalmanager@swanagepiertrust.com
