Police are appealing for witnesses after five offenders made off from a Poole garage with 'extremely heavy and rare' scrap metal.

Officers belive five thieves stole the scrap steel from a secure garage along Russell Gardens in Hamworthy between 9pm and 9.20pm on Friday January 4.

Police Constable Simon Hatch of Poole Police said: "The items taken from the garage were high value steel components from pumping equipment which are extremely heavy and rare.

"I believe that the five men responsible for this crime used a red Peageot and a white transit style van.

"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, observed any suspicious activity or saw a red Peageot or white transit van between 9pm and 9.30pm in the area to contact police urgently.

"I also urge anyone who has been offered such products since that date to call Dorset Police as soon as possible."

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 4:454.
