The next live satellite broadcast in the 2013 -14 Season from the Metropolitan Opera in New York will be Werther by Massenet, which will be on the big screen at the Regent in Christchurch on Saturday 15th March at 4.55pm.

Jonas Kaufmann stars in the title role of Massenet’s sublime adaptation of Goethe’s revolutionary and tragic romance, The Sorrows of Young Werther, opposite Sophie Koch as Charlotte.

Werther, first performed in Vienna in 1892, is Massenet’s most popular opera and is set in Frankfurt during the summer of 1772.

The new production is directed and designed by Richard Eyre and Rob Howell, the same team that created the Met’s recent hit staging of Carmen. Rising young maestro Alain Altinoglu conducts.

Tickets at £22 (concs £20) from the Regent box office on 01202 499199.
