Although the figure for unemployment has dropped to 2.34 million, the Federation of Small Business still isn’t satisfied.

Neil Eames, development manager for the FSB Wessex Region, said: “These figures suggest the labour market is continuing to head in the right direction albeit not at the pace we would like. It is important that the momentum of previous quarters is maintained and this can only be achieved by maximising the job creation potential of small businesses. It is also encouraging that the gap between pay growth and the rate of inflation is starting to close. If inflation remains low, workers can look forward to seeing their pay packet go a little further.”
