Councillors will ensure events can go ahead at Weymouth Pavilion despite plans to close the venue.

Weymouth and Portland councillors will next month decide the future of the Pavilion after it was recommended the complex be closed down.

However, the council has reassured organisers of planned events in the spring that their shows will go ahead.

Cllr Ian Bruce, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council Tourism and Culture Briefholder, said: "I am delighted that the council is now planning to allow events already booked at the Pavilion until the end of May to take place.

"Whatever the decision of councillors considering the budget in February, it is important that our customers, plus those organising and taking part in these shows, had this reassurance."

That'll be the Day and Miss Saigon will still go ahead as planned with performances in April and May.

The Council's Management Committee will debate next year's budget on February 5, before going to the Full Council on February 21.

Cllr Bruce added: "The future of the Pavilion financing is a vital issue to be resolved, but allowing bookings up to at least the end of May both ensures these events can take place without any additional costs to the local tax payers."
