A Weymouth teenager has been found guilty of stabbing his mum to death.

17-year-old Kieren George Smith killed his mother, 42-year-old Leah Whittle at an address along Benville Road, Weymouth on Saturday July 21, 2012.

Smith was found guilty earlier today at Winchester Crown Court. He is due to be sentenced tomorrow.

Following the conviction, Detective Inspector Marcus Hester of Dorset Police's Major Crime Investigation Team said: "This case involved a particularly horrific and sustained attack on a woman who was unable to defend herself.

"The jury has reached the correct verdict and in due course Kieren Smith will be sentenced as appropriate.

"This is a very tragic case where a young man, through his own violent actions, has killed his mother.

"He now has to face the consequences of these actions as well as to live with the loss of his mother."
