WOMAD has announced that, for the second year running, the festival will be partnering with green energy company and fellow West Country organisation, Ecotricity. The Stroud based company will be supporting a main stage at WOMAD, which takes place at Charlton Park, Malmesbury, Wiltshire 24th-27th July.
After 2013’s partnership, which saw Ecotricity support the hugely popular day and nightspot Molly’s ‘Green’ Bar, the two organisations plan to build on that success with the creation of an Ecotricity Stage in the heart of the festival.
WOMAD Festival Director Chris Smith said: “We are always looking for ways to reduce our own emissions and raise awareness of matters of global importance to our audience. This partnership with Ecotricity is a good fit for WOMAD as it achieves these objectives and shows people what they can do to make a difference. In addition, Ecotricity are a dynamic local company who we had great fun with last year and we hope this partnership grows in this and future years.”
WOMAD 2014 line-up announced so far includes: Alice Russell, Goran Bregovic & His Wedding and Funeral Band, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Nitin Sawhney ONEZERO to name just a few.
Dale Vince, Ecotricity founder, said: “We had a good time at WOMAD last year. We had some great conversations with festival goers about the need to tackle climate change, as well as the things we’re doing at Ecotricity to work towards a Green Britain. We’re looking forward to coming back for more, and this time having an Ecotricity stage.”
