THE work of young Dorset volunteers is being recognised with an awards ceremony.
West Dorset District Council is calling on residents to nominate candidates for The Chairman's Awards: Young Volunteer Champions 2013.
The event recognises the unpaid voluntary work young people and youth groups do in their spare time.
Nominations are open from now until Friday, February 15.
The categories are Junior Young Champion, aged 12 or under, Young Community Champion, aged between 13 and 18, Senior Young Champion, aged between 19 and 25 and Youth Group Champion for any voluntary youth community group.
The award ceremony will take place at South Walks House, Dorchester, on Friday, March 15, where winners will receive a cash prize and certificate.
Nomination forms are available at West Dorset District Council's main offices, tourist information centres in West Dorset, town council offices and online at www.dorsetforyou.com/youngchampion.
Gillian Summers, chairman of West Dorset District Council, said: "This is an opportunity to nominate a young person or youth group who has really made a difference to their community and to celebrate all the work that they have done.
"Volunteering is such a beneficial thing to do. It can lead to all sorts of opportunities including employment.
"If there is a young person or community group who gives up their time and really makes a difference, then please nominate them for an award."
