A reduction of 200mm in the proposed height of a bungalow in Golf Links Road, Ferndown, has won the approval of East Dorset planners, whose refusal of an original application was upheld on appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.

The application by Mr D Stratton continued to be opposed by Ferndown Town Council on ground of excessive bulk and scale, and adverse impact on the street scene, and there were three letters of objection from neighbouring properties.

But planning officers advised members of the planning committee at their meeting last week that the original application had large dormer windows at the front and rear and cropped gables which would have resulted in a substantially larger and more bulky dwelling.

Councillors agreed that the proposal to raise the ridge of the main roof by 1400 mm instead of 1600mm to provide accommodation at the first floor with a two-storey gabled extension on the front was acceptable and addressed the Planning Inspector's concerns.
