A HOUSE in Leeson Drive, which has been empty for years following the death of the occupants, will soon be rented to a local family on the housing register.
The property is legally owned by a descendant, however it has not been lived in and East Dorset District Council has not been able to trace the owner.
The authority therefore applied to the Courts for an Order - the first in Dorset - which was granted on 24th October. This is the first step to taking over short term possession of the property. The council is now carrying out the final processes to ensure that it has possession of the property for the next seven years.
It is anticipated that in early January next year work will start to improve the condition of the garden and bring the property up to a decent standard. All costs incurred by the council will be recovered from the rental income with the remainder being held for the owner should he reappear in the future.
